Weekly Snow Forecast - From 30 March 2019
A big change in the weather coming up in the next few days across Britain and Ireland as a large upper trough moves down from the northwest bringing a change to colder and more unsettled conditions.
A cold front sinking south this weekend introduces colder air into northern Britain with some sleet and snow showers developing over parts of the Scottish mountains for a time:
These quickly die out on Sunday as a ridge of high pressure builds back in, however early next week sees a more active cold front sweeping south-eastwards as that upper trough arrives. This sets the pattern for a showery period of weather with some excellent convective possibilities likely due to the cold air aloft and the strengthening sun.
Heavy, wintry showers are likely to become quite widespread during Tuesday and Wednesday, the snow risk mainly for the Scottish mountains at first:
However, there is a risk of more widespread snowfall if troughs move through intensifying the precipitation:
It's important to note however that most of any settling snow will be limited to higher regions with temperatures in-between the showers likely to bounce back pretty well in the strong sunshine by day.
