High pressure is now losing its grip across Britain and Ireland but will retain enough influence to keep many parts fine and dry again today. However, a trough moving in from the west will encourage some scattered showers to break out ahead of more changeable conditions developing as we go through the week.
Tuesday has dawned dry and bright in many areas with some sunny spells around and for most places it will be a dry day with further spells of sunshine at times, the best of these coming towards the south and east, especially around coasts where sea breezes develop. Cloud will tend to bubble up during the course of the day in many areas though and by this afternoon a scattering of showers will break out, these most likely across parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and northern England, but the odd one is possible elsewhere too. Not everywhere will see the showers, but where they do develop they could turn quite heavy, perhaps with a risk of a rumble or two of thunder too. It will be a warm day away from the far north and northeast with top temperatures generally in the range of 22°C to 26°C, but the southeast could be a degree or so warmer.
Any showers this evening will slowly fade away tonight to leave many places with a dry and fine night but with some mist and low cloud forming in places. However, thickening cloud and freshening winds moving into the far west and northwest will bring some rain to parts of western Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland later in the night. This rain will slowly spread eastwards into other north-western regions tomorrow along with some cooler conditions, but to the south and east it will be another bright and very warm day with just the odd shower developing.
