A changeable 36 to 48 hours ahead for many parts of the UK and Ireland as low pressure tracks north-eastwards bringing showers or longer spells of rain to many regions. Thereafter attention turns to high pressure building to the southeast of the UK which will allow some very warm air to push northwards as we head into next week.
Although many regions are starting off dry this morning, outbreaks of rain have already moved in across Ireland, Wales and southwest England and will continue to push north and eastwards across many parts of England and Wales. Some of the rain could be quite heavy in places, but drier and somewhat brighter conditions will follow on across central and southern parts of England and Wales this afternoon as the rain band becomes slow-moving across parts of Northern Ireland and northern England. However, further heavy showers could be triggered by the brighter skies, especially across central regions. Meanwhile, to the north it will be a mostly bright day with sunny spells, but scattered showers will affect central and northern parts of Scotland. Temperatures for many will reach highs of 18°C to 22°C so close to normal for mid-July.
Another pulse of rain pushes back north-eastwards across parts of southern and south-eastern England this evening and overnight whilst further rain or showers affect much of the rest of England, Wales and Ireland. This leaves much of Scotland and Northern Ireland with a dry night once evening showers fade away and here temperatures will drop down to lows of 11°C to 13°C, but it will remain muggy further south and east. This takes us into a showery start to the weekend, some of the showers heavy in places with thunder, but by Sunday southern and eastern regions will be drier, brighter and warmer whilst freshening winds and rain move into the north and west.
