The weather across central and north-western regions of the UK today will once again be dominated by a slow-moving frontal system which isn't moving very far very fast. It will gradually begin to push northwards tomorrow, but only to be replaced by a rather deep low coming in from the southwest later on Monday and into Tuesday.
Periods of rain associated with that frontal system are continuing to feed in from the southeast across parts of East Anglia, the Midlands, north Wales, Northern Ireland and south-western regions of Scotland this morning, some of the rain heavy and persistent at times. This rain band will not go very far again today, but the rain will tend to ease at times with some drier intervals developing, especially by this afternoon. Meanwhile to the north and northeast, across many parts of Scotland it will be drier and brighter although some heavy and locally thundery showers could break out this afternoon. It will also be mostly fine to the south and southwest with only isolated showers possible, mainly over Ireland. In the sunnier locations temperatures will reach the low twenties, feeling rather humid towards the northeast again, but in the cloudier and wetter regions values will be held back.
Not a huge amount of change is expected tonight, but the rain band will tend to drift a little further north to lie in an area extending from Northern Ireland across towards northern England, the heaviest of the rain tending to become confined to the west. Elsewhere it will be a mostly dry night once any evening showers die out, but it will still be rather muggy towards the northeast. The new working week sees a band of showery rain pushing northwards across northern regions but for many there will be plenty of fine and pleasant weather around before freshening winds and rain reach the far south and southwest later on in the day.
