A cooler air mass will be taking over from the west and northwest this weekend in the wake of a cold front pushing eastwards. The main difference is likely to be felt at night as temperatures widely drop down into single figures by Sunday night, and for southern and eastern regions this will be for the first time in a number of weeks.
Back to this morning and that cold front is bringing a cloudy and wet start to the weekend across many northern and western regions although clearer conditions with a few showers are now moving into the far west of Ireland. That band of cloud and rain will continue to push eastwards today, but by the time it reaches southeast England this evening the rain will have become light and patchy in nature. Sunny spells and scattered showers will then follow on from the west into many areas by this afternoon with most of the showers affecting north-western regions where they could be heavy at times. Ahead of the rain band it will again become quite warm with maximums into the low-twenties, but highs nearer the low-mid teens are expected further north and west.
The last of the cloud and any rain will clear the southeast this evening and then many places will become dry with clear spells although showers will affect northern and western coasts, some of these heavy at times. Under the clearer skies it will turn chilly with minimums dropping down into single figures away from south-eastern regions and coastal areas. This takes us into a bright and chilly Sunday morning but showers already affecting northern and western regions will break out more widely during the day, turning heavy and perhaps thundery at times although there will still be some good sunny spells in-between with some parts of the south and east staying mostly dry.
