Low pressure sits close to or over northern parts of Britain today with troughs and fronts circulating around it. These features will bring showers to many areas, with some longer spells of rain in places too, but some places will also see some drier and brighter interludes at times.
Although more sheltered northern and eastern districts of the UK are starting off dry this morning with some sunny spells developing, there are already plenty of showers feeding into western areas, these often heavy and bringing the odd rumble or two of thunder. These showers, accompanied by strong and blustery winds in the south which may touch gale force in places, will continue to push eastwards today, merging into longer spells of rain across parts of Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and northern England for a time Somewhat drier and brighter conditions will then follow in from the west, although further scattered showers cannot be ruled out. The winds will be much lighter across central and northern parts of Scotland, and whilst there will be some sunny spells around this morning, a scattering of heavy showers will break out here by this afternoon. Maximum temperatures today will be in the range of 15°C to 19°C, but it will be feeling cooler in the wind and showers.
Showers will die out across Scotland tonight allowing it to turn chilly as skies clear and with light winds here, but further to the south the blustery winds will keep the showers going throughout the night, the heaviest and most frequent always towards the west with some eastern regions seeing more in the way of dry spells developing. This takes us into another showery day tomorrow but there will be some sunny spells around before wet and windy weather sweeps in from the west during Sunday.
