It's been a changeable week of weather across many parts of Britain and Ireland and there's no let-up in sight with further unsettled conditions expected over the coming days. By the middle of next week, some central and western regions of the UK and Ireland will have seen up to 3 or 4 inches of rainfall, but with low pressure systems taking quite a southerly track, then some parts of Scotland will be enjoying more in the way of drier and brighter conditions.
The weekend is starting off on a showery note across many areas with blustery winds in the south. The showers are locally quite heavy, and even merging into longer spells of rain across parts of northern England and southern Scotland this morning. As we move on through the day the heavier and more frequent showers will tend to move away to the east to allow most places to enjoy a drier and brighter period of weather with some sunny spells developing. This will be short-lived, however, as the next frontal system moves into southern Ireland, Wales and southwest England later on, the rain turning heavy and persistent with winds becoming quite strong in the southwest again. Maximum temperatures today will range from 12°C to 15°C in the north and 16°C to 19°C further south, but the brisk winds in the south will take the edge of those values.
Any showers will tend to die out across Scotland tonight allowing it to turn chilly here as skies clear and with light winds here, but for much of England, Wales, the Republic of Ireland and, later, Northern Ireland, a spell of wet and windy weather will push eastwards with some locally heavy and persistent rain affecting many areas before clearer and more showery conditions follow into the southwest. The rain turns more showery during tomorrow across England and Wales, but for the north and west it will be turning drier and brighter with fewer showers as the winds veer more northerly in direction bringing some cooler air with them.
