A new week but a continuation of the theme from last week with further unsettled conditions on the way to finish September off with. The low pressure system that brought the wet weather over the weekend, especially to central and southern regions, has now cleared to the east only to be followed by another system taking a very similar track during the next 24 hours or so.
Monday will actually dawn dry and bright in many regions with some sunny spells around once any mist or fog patches clear although there are more in the way of showers across Scotland thanks to the northerly breeze. However, cloud is already thickening from the southwest across Ireland, Wales and southwest England in advance of outbreaks of rain spreading in across Ireland this morning, extending across many parts of England and Wales by dusk. The rain will become heavy and persistent for a time with brisk winds in the south, but drier conditions will return across Ireland this afternoon. Meanwhile for northern parts of Northern Ireland, the far north of England and Scotland, it will be a brighter picture although scattered showers will continue. Temperatures today will range from 11°C in the north to 17°C in the south, but feeling cooler in the breezier and wetter areas.
That wet weather across central and southern parts of England and Wales will clear eastwards tonight, but a trailing band of persistent rain will be left across northern England and Northern Ireland whilst heavy showers move into the southwest. To the north it will be drier and clearer with a few showers in the far north but some frost is possible in the Scottish glens whilst it remains milder in the south. Tomorrow sees showers or longer spells of rain slowly pulling away to the east with brighter and cooler weather following on from the north and west.
