Thursday starts off on a quiet note for many regions thanks to a ridge of high pressure but attention will soon turn to developments out towards the west where the remnants of Hurricane Lorenzo will be moving in during the day before spreading to many other regions during tonight and tomorrow bringing some wet and windy conditions with them.
It’s a cold morning out there with temperatures having fallen low enough for some frost under clear skies overnight but there will be plenty of sunshine around to compensate. Many places will then see a dry day with the sunshine becoming increasingly hazy as cloud thickens from the west. This cloud will bring outbreaks of rain in across much of Ireland during this morning, the rain turning heavy at times, before spreading into many other western regions of the UK by the end of the afternoon. Top temperatures for many places will be in the range of 10°C to 14°C, but across parts of Ireland highs in the mid-teens are likely as muggy air associated with the remnants of Lorenzo moves in, but here the winds will become a feature with gales and severe gales developing around coasts and hills.
This takes us into a mild night with outbreaks of rain continuing to push north and eastwards allowing drier conditions to follow on although further showery outbreaks of rain will affect Ireland and the southwest where it will remain very windy with gales in places. Only across central and northern parts of Scotland is it likely to remain dry and chilly with clear spells and here it will be mostly fine and dry tomorrow. Elsewhere and there will be a lot of cloud around with showery outbreaks of rain spreading eastwards, accompanied by strong winds in the south and southwest, but conditions will slowly improve during the course of the day with drier and brighter skies returning.
