The working week ends on an unsettled note for many parts of Britain and Ireland with low pressure remaining in charge. A new frontal system moving in from the southwest will bring outbreaks of rain with it today, this system becoming slow-moving across parts of England and Wales during the next couple of days, delivering some very wet weather in places before it clears to the east on Sunday only to allow further systems to move in for the start of next week.
For many parts of England and Wales it will be a cloudy day with periods of rain spreading in from the southwest on strong winds. The rain will become heavy and persistent across many parts of Wales and northern England before tending to sink south-eastwards during this afternoon and into the evening. There will be some drier intervals towards the south and east of England, but the driest weather today will be found across much of Ireland, Northern Ireland, southern and eastern Scotland with plenty of sunny spells around before scattered showers break out. For northern and western parts of Scotland there will be more in the way of showers, these often heavy and prolonged, especially over the hills and mountains. With the strong winds, especially in the south and west, temperatures will be rather subdued with maximums in the range of 11°C to 16°C for most.
Outbreaks of rain will linger across southern and south-eastern parts of England this evening and tonight, but elsewhere there will be a drier and clearer spell of weather although showers will continue in the northwest. Looking ahead to tomorrow and more rain will affect southern and south-eastern parts of England, but will ease for a time before more heavy rain moves into the southwest later in the day. Elsewhere and there will be more in the way of drier and brighter weather around although further scattered showers will breakout at times, especially in the northwest.
