The weekend is starting off on a very wet note across many parts of England and Wales with a slow-moving frontal system having brought a lot of heavy rain overnight, especially to parts of Wales, southwest England, the Midlands and northern England where reports of localised flooding are coming in. This system will make its way south-eastwards today, clearing the southeast of England tonight, to leave a drier but colder air mass in place in the coming days.
Spells of heavy and persistent rain will still be affecting northern and western regions of England along with Wales this morning, but this band of wet weather will gradually move its way south-eastwards during today, arriving across Kent by this afternoon. This will then allow the clearer and brighter conditions across Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to follow on behind although frequent blustery showers will affect the north and west of Scotland along with parts of Northern Ireland. Although it will be mild this morning across southeast England with temperatures into the low-mid teens, colder air will be sinking south in the wake of that frontal system with many areas seeing afternoon temperatures of 7°C to 11°C, but for parts of Scotland values will be in the range of 4°C to 6°C at best and feeling colder still in the strong winds.
The last of the rain will slowly clear southeast England this evening and then for many places it will be a cold night with clear spells although showers will continue to pepper northern and north-western coasts. Some patchy frost is likely in areas where the winds ease, but it will remain a touch milder around coasts. This takes us into a much drier and brighter day tomorrow with many places seeing some sunny intervals, but showers will continue to feed into north-eastern areas exposed to the north/north-westerly wind.
*REMINDER: British Summer Time comes to an end tonight and clocks will go back 1 hour at 2am!*
