A rather deep area of low pressure sinking southwards close to the east coast of the UK is bringing an unsettled start to the weekend with brisk winds and outbreaks of rain and showers affecting many regions. This low will slowly fill and start to drift away to the east tomorrow allowing drier and brighter conditions to follow on from the west.
Apart from showers across south-western regions, it is a mainly dry start to the day across central and southern counties of England but a band of cloud and rain extending from western parts of Scotland, down across Northern Ireland and across northern England will continue to sink south and westwards today, the rain tending to become lighter and more patchy as it does so. Brighter conditions will then follow into many eastern regions but we are expecting a scattering of heavy showers, perhaps with thunder, to break out across eastern counties of England this afternoon. The best of the weather today is likely to come across parts of central, eastern and south-western Scotland where it should stay dry with some sunny spells for much of the time. Top temperatures today will be in the range of 13°C to 16°C for many and feeling cooler in the wind, but across the sunnier parts of Scotland highs of 19°C are possible.
Showers across eastern and southern Britain this evening will slowly ease overnight, becoming confined to the southwest allowing clear spells to develop. However, another area of cloud and rain will sink southwards across north-eastern Britain as another frontal system moves in. This cloudy, damp weather continues south across central and eastern regions of the UK tomorrow, potentially sparking some heavy showers in the south by the afternoon, but it should be turning brighter in the west and north.
