Some more changes in the weather today as the area of low pressure that brought yesterday's rain and showers continues to sink south and high pressure builds strongly to the north and west. This allows for a stiff north-easterly wind to pick up too which will keep eastern coasts cooler.
There's a bit of a north/south split to the weather this morning with the best of the early brightness across more north and north-western regions whilst it is generally cloudier towards the south and east. The cloud is continuing to bring showery outbreaks of rain to central and southern parts of the UK, mainly across England and Wales, these locally on the heavy side. As we go through the day the showers will tend to become more confined to the south and southwest for a time before a new area of showery rain pushes into eastern and north-eastern England later, perhaps extending into southeast Scotland. This leaves the rest of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland with the best of the drier and brighter conditions on offer, the best of the sunshine tending to be reserved for north-western regions. Maximum temperatures today will range from a rather cool 12°C to 15°C in the north and east to a warmer 16°C to 20°C further south and west, but the wind will be quite a feature, especially in exposed spots.
That new area of showery rain will push westwards across central regions of the UK tonight, reaching parts of Ireland by the morning. The far north and south will be drier with showers in the southwest tending to ease. Friday is then set to be another day with scattered showers pushing west/north-westwards at times before another area of rain moves into southern counties of England. It will also be a touch warmer as winds begin to veer more south of east.
