The working week ends with a new area of low pressure and its associated frontal systems pushing in from off the Atlantic to keep the changeable theme going. This system will be slow-moving over the next few days, only really properly clearing away to the southeast by the end of Sunday with cooler, fresher conditions following.
For this morning it is a mostly cloudy start to the day for much of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland with outbreaks of rain and drizzle moving through from the west, the heaviest and most persistent of the rain coming across west-facing hills. Some of this rain and drizzle is also moving into parts of northwest England.and Wales but for much of southern and eastern England along with northeast Scotland it is a dry and bright start. The far northeast, including the Northern Isles, along with the south and southeast of England will remain mostly fine with sunny spells today, but elsewhere that cloud will continue to feed in from the west bringing periods of rain and drizzle at times. The heaviest and most frequent of the rain will always remain across western coasts and hills, but some showery outbreaks across central regions could turn briefly heavy. The highest temperatures today will be found in the brighter parts of the south and southeast where maximums of 20°C to 22°C are expected, but values will be nearer 15°C to 19°C elsewhere although there will be a muggy feel.
No huge changes are expected tonight with many places remaining rather cloudy as further bursts of rain and drizzle push in from the west. Again the far northeast and far south and southeast will remain mainly dry. The weekend starts off on a similar note but as we go through the day tomorrow drier and somewhat brighter conditions should move into the north and west although the odd shower will still be possible.
