Welcome to the first weekend of July and a further easing of lockdown for many of us. However, the weather is in a rather changeable mood so if you're planning on heading out to eat or drink then be prepared for some rather breezy conditions along with some rain or drizzle in places although it will turn cooler and brighter from the northwest tomorrow.
Back to this morning and it's a mostly overcast start to the day for many places with mist and hill fog along with outbreaks of rain and drizzle moving through from the west, the heaviest and most persistent of the rain coming across west-facing hills as well as across parts of northern England. It is a brighter start across parts of central and northern Scotland and somewhat brighter conditions will develop in places during the course of today, especially across eastern regions sheltered by high ground to the west. However, a fair amount of cloud will continue to feed in from the west, this cloud thick enough to bring spells of rain and drizzle, particularly across western coasts and hills. With winds coming in from the southwest, it will be a rather muggy feeling day with top temperatures in brighter parts of the south and east of 20°C to 23°C, but it will be cooler in the north with highs here in the range of 14°C to 18°C.
A deepening area of low pressure sweeps in from the west tonight bringing wet and increasingly windy weather for northern and western regions, but it should be drier towards the south and east. This rain band will turn increasingly light and patchy as it clears away to the east tomorrow with brighter and fresher conditions following on from the west to reach all but the northeast of Scotland by the end of the day. Strong to gale force westerly winds could gust up to 50 or 60 MPH across parts of southern Scotland and northern England for a time, these strong winds bringing plenty of showers to the northwest.
