A mostly fine day is in store for many regions all thanks to high pressure extending in from the southwest across much of Britain and Ireland. However, this high will be retreating back south-westwards during the next few days allowing Atlantic weather systems to make their way in, primarily affecting northern Britain but extending to most places by the end of the week.
Back to this morning and it is a chilly start as clear skies and light winds allowed temperatures to drop down into single figures quite widely overnight and even low enough for a touch of ground frost in one or two spots. However, to compensate there is plenty of sunshine around and for most places it will be a mostly fine and dry day with sunny spells and variable amounts of cloud drifting around. However, there are a couple of exceptions. One or two showers are affecting parts of northwest England this morning and there will be a few showers breaking out over parts of Scotland today before more in the way of thicker cloud and some rain or drizzle move into western parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland later on. Temperatures will range from a cool 14°C to 18°C in the north and 19°C to 22°C further south, but the London region will be a degree or two warmer.
The south sees another fine and dry night tonight but for many parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland along with northern and western parts of the Republic of Ireland it will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle pushing eastwards, the rain tending to turn heavier and more persistent by the end of the night. This sets the scene for a north/south split tomorrow with northern regions remaining mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle at times although the far north may stay dry and bright whilst for southern Britain it remains mostly fine and dry with some warm sunshine.
