The ridge of high pressure that has given many regions a reasonable start to the working week is now giving way to more unsettled conditions moving in from the northwest as low pressure heads eastwards. A more changeable and cooler period of weather is expected in the coming days with most places seeing some showers or longer spells of rain developing at times.
It's a generally cloudy start to the day across many parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England and northern parts of the Republic of Ireland with outbreaks of rain spreading in from the west, the rain locally on the heavy side. The far north of Scotland is starting dry and bright however, and it is a mostly fine start to the day across many parts of England, Wales and southern parts of Ireland although cloud amounts are quite variable. There won't be too much in the way of change today with the rain slowly fizzling out across those more northern regions but a few sharp showers may then develop this afternoon. The far north will remain mostly dry and it will be a fine and warm day in the south with plenty of sunshine helping temperatures up to highs of 22°C to 25°C, but it will be cooler the further north and west that you head with maximums in the far north in the low teens at best.
Much of the north and west of Britain and Ireland will remain cloudy and damp tonight with further spells of rain pushing in from the west, this rain extending a little further south and east during the course of the night to leave the south and east of the UK with a mostly fine and dry night. After a dry and bright start here tomorrow, those cloudy conditions with an increasing risk of rain will spread to many regions although rainfall amounts in the southeast will be on the small side.
