Today will be the hottest day of 2019 so far for many regions as temperatures soar into the low-mid thirties as some of the European heat wafts our way. However, it won't be for everyone with the distribution of the heat being somewhat different to the last couple of days thanks to a subtle change in wind direction meaning that some western regions will be somewhat less warm today.
Yesterday the highest temperatures came across Wales where the 30°C mark was reached in the UK for the first time this year. However, today will be even hotter with temperatures across central and south-eastern parts of England likely to peak at around 33°C to 35°C this afternoon making for a very hot day for the end of June. Most places will be fine and sunny for much of the day although the sunshine will tend to turn hazy from the west as the day wears on, and some north-eastern coasts may stay rather cloudy. It will be less warm the further north and west that you are and a weak cold front moving in from the west will trigger some heavy and potentially thundery downpours across parts of northern Britain later on, but these will be hit and miss with many places missing them. UV and pollen levels will be high or very high in most regions today so this is something else to be aware of alongside the high temperatures.
That cold front continues to push eastwards tonight bringing that fresher air in from the west although it will be another warm and muggy night towards the southeast of England. Despite the heat, the front will be pretty weak, doing little more than bringing some showers to the north for a time. This takes us into a fresher day tomorrow with temperatures across central and eastern England up to ten degrees cooler than today's. Many areas will remain fine and dry although a few showers are likely towards the north and west where a brisk westerly breeze will be blowing.
