A new area of low pressure moving in from the southwest will be bringing unsettled conditions to many areas during the next 24 hours with thundery showers and strong winds posing problems for some. This low will only slowly track across southern parts of the country during the next couple of days keeping the changeable theme going although temperatures won’t actually fare too badly.
Bands of showers have been pushing in from the southwest overnight, so although it is a dry and bright start to the day across many northern and eastern regions of the UK, further showery outbreaks of rain will be pushing up from the south and southwest as we go through the day. The showers will become heavy and thundery at times particularly over parts of Wales and northwest England where hail is also possible, whilst coastal gales could affect southern coasts at times. Whilst the showers will be hit and miss with some areas ending up with a soaking, for parts of western Ireland, much of Scotland and the far southeast of England there will tend to be more in the way of drier and sunnier conditions on offer. Despite the showers, temperatures will do quite well in the sunnier breaks with maximums in the range of 19°C to 24°C, but it will feel cooler in the blustery wind towards the south and southeast.
Showers or longer spells of rain will continue to circulate around that area of low pressure tonight, again turning heavy and thundery at times, but there will be some drier and clearer spells, especially towards the north and west of the country with showers easing over southern regions for a time. The showery theme continues into tomorrow as that low slowly drifts across England with some locally thundery downpours likely in places, but drier and brighter conditions in the north and west will slowly extend their way south-eastwards during the course of the rest of the week.
