Once again the weather is set to turn rather unsettled over the next couple of days as low pressure takes hold bringing spells of rain to many areas with some places seeing some very wet weather indeed before colder and somewhat drier conditions move down from the north during the course of the weekend and into next week.
It’s a misty and murky start to Thursday morning across central and eastern regions of the UK where overnight rain has given way to patches of fog, these locally dense in places. These will slowly lift this morning as further outbreaks of rain push their way northwards across England, the rain turning quite heavy at times before easing from the west later. Meanwhile for much of Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, there will be more in the way of brighter spells around with some sunny intervals developing, but blustery showers will be feeding in from the west and northwest as the winds become strong with coastal gales developing. It will feel rather cool in the windier and wetter areas with top temperatures today of 13°C to 15°C coming towards the far southeast of England.
It turns chilly in many areas tonight with some frost in the north as the last of the rain across eastern England clears to leave a mixture of clear spells and showers, the showers tending to become confined to the north later in the night where they will turn increasingly wintry over higher ground. Later in the night the next batch of wind and rain will arrive across the southwest and this sweeps north-eastwards tomorrow bringing some very wet weather to parts of Ireland, Wales and northwest England in particular. The far southeast will remain mostly dry and mild for much of the day, whilst colder and more showery conditions will continue to affect the far north.
