Something of an improvement in the weather for many parts of England and Wales today with more in the way of drier and brighter spells developing compared to recent days, but for many northern and western regions the changeable theme continues with low pressure never too far away.
For much of Scotland and Northern Ireland, Saturday is dawning dull and overcast with further outbreaks of rain and hill snow feeding in on strong easterly winds, the strongest of the winds being found towards the north of the country. That cloudy, wet weather will continue to slowly push northwards today allowing southern parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland to brighten up, and there will be some drier interludes towards the west coast and the Northern Isles too.
Meanwhile, for many parts of England, Wales and Ireland it will be a generally drier and brighter picture today with some sunny spells developing, but showers and blustery winds are moving into the southwest and these will extend their way across much of Ireland, Wales and southwest England today, some of the showers heavy at times.
Temperatures across the country will range from the low single figures across central and northern Scotland, where strong winds will make it feel even colder, to highs of 10°C to 13°C further south so on the mild side of normal again here.
The rain across the north will continue to slowly edge northwards tonight and tomorrow, eventually allowing the milder air to reach northern Scotland. Meanwhile, another area of rain will develop across central and eastern regions of England with some locally heavy and persistent rain bringing a wet night to these areas. It will be drier elsewhere with showers easing but as we go into tomorrow there will continue to be a risk of showers, especially in the west and south, but eastern regions will become drier and somewhat brighter.
