Low pressure to the south of the UK will be trying to send its associated frontal systems northwards this weekend but high pressure to the north of the country looks set to hold firm and will force those fronts to retreat back south during the second half of the weekend.
Once again this morning it is a grey and murky start with a fair amount of low cloud around, this cloud having become more widespread overnight. However, there are some clearer slots towards western and north-western regions where temperatures have dropped low enough for a touch of frost in places.
We have thicker cloud moving up from the south across England and Wales and this is bringing some showery outbreaks of rain as it continues to push north and west today. Somewhat brighter conditions will then follow into south-eastern regions of England for a time but we are expecting further showers to break out later, chiefly over parts of the Midlands and Wales where they could be locally heavy although not everywhere will catch them.
This leaves western and north-western Scotland with the driest and brightest conditions today but that keen east/southeast wind will continue so there will again be quite a wide range of temperatures will values ranging from 5°C or 6°C towards the northeast, 7°C to 10°C quite widely elsewhere but perhaps as high as 12°C or 13°C in the best of any sunny spells towards the south and southeast of England.
Many places will become cloudy tonight with further scattered showers breaking out, but an area of more persistent rain is expected to push north into central and southern regions of England and Wales. This rain continues to edge northwards tomorrow, perhaps delivering some snow for the Scottish mountains, but drier and somewhat brighter conditions will follow from the southeast although further showers are likely to develop.
