A trailing frontal system extending across central regions of the UK and Ireland today marks the boundary between the mainly cloudy but very mild weather to the south and the brighter but somewhat cooler conditions to the north. This frontal system won't move too far in the next 24 hours before being pushed back northwards as we go into tomorrow.
It's a mild and cloudy morning out there for many regions with temperatures in the south widely into double figures already. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle are affecting many parts of Ireland, southern and eastern Scotland and northern parts of England and this band of damp weather won't move very far today with much of Ireland and northern England along with southernmost parts of Scotland remaining dull and overcast throughout the day.
Skies will brighten across much of Scotland with some good sunny spells developing but the brisk wind will bring some showers, mainly to the north and northwest where they could be quite heavy. Meanwhile to the south, and for much of central, southern and eastern England it will be a largely cloudy day but some brighter spells will develop at times, especially in the east, although some rain will develop across parts of Wales.
Temperatures today will be in double figures for many regions with maximums ranging from 9°C to 11°C in the north and 12°C to 15°C in the south, the highest values coming in areas that see the best of any bright or sunny spells.
Little change is expected this evening and tonight with that band of cloud and rain tending to start to edge back northwards. It will be a mild and breezy night for most regions and the mild theme continues tomorrow, especially towards the south and east where it will be dry and bright at times. Rain further to the north and west will tend to become more persistent during the course of the day.
