Low pressure and its associated frontal systems will be affecting many parts of the country today but if you are in the far northwest of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, or in southern and south-eastern England, you will escape the mainly damp conditions.
It is a cloudy and damp start to the day for many regions then with outbreaks of rain and drizzle mainly affecting southern Scotland, much of central and northern England, Wales, eastern Ireland and easternmost parts of Ireland. Much of the rain is on the light side but there will be one or two heavier bursts of rain around. That damp weather will slowly edge east today and start to break up, but for much of northern and eastern England, Wales and down into southwest England it will remain mostly cloudy with further showery outbreaks from time to time.
To the southeast and for much of central, southern and south-eastern England up into East Anglia it will brighten up with some sunny spells developing. Meanwhile, for the far northwest it will be brighter with sunny spells and a few coastal showers, these sunnier conditions extending to much of Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland by the end of the day.
There will be quite a range of temperatures today with values ranging from a cooler 8°C to 12°C in the north to a mild 14°C to 17°C towards the south and southeast of England where it will feel very pleasant with generally light to moderate winds.
The last of any showery rain will clear away to the east this evening with many areas becoming dry and rather chilly overnight. However, temperatures will pick up in the northwest later in the night as increasing cloud and wind brings outbreaks of rain into the far northwest. This takes us into a north-south split for tomorrow with brisk winds and outbreaks of rain at times in the north whilst the south is drier and brighter.
