Changes in the weather again today as a ridge of high pressure extends across southern Britain bringing a mainly dry and bright day here whilst a frontal system pushing into the north will bring mostly cloudy skies, freshening winds and a band of rain.
Thursday is dawning dry in many regions but there is a fair amount of cloud around along with some mist and fog patches for some central regions. Where skies have been clear it is a chilly start but most places are frost-free. Cloud will continue to thicken across many northern regions this morning as a band of rain moves in from the northwest, this rain reaching much of Ireland, Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and northernmost parts of England by this evening allowing brighter and more showery conditions to follow on from the northwest.
Meanwhile, for southernmost parts of England and Wales, skies will tend to brighten as we go through the day with many southern regions enjoying a largely fine afternoon although the sunshine may turn hazy at times.
It will be an increasingly breezy day for many regions which will take the edge off the maximum temperatures which will range from 8°C to 11°C in the north and 13°C to 16°C across many parts of England and Wales.
That weakening band of cloud and rain will continue to slowly slip southwards tonight, reaching parts of southwest England, Wales and the Midlands by dawn. It remains dry to the southeast and it will be clearer and colder to the north with scattered showers. Tomorrow sees that band of cloud and patchy rain eventually reaching southern regions and then most places will be brighter and colder with sunny spells and showers, the showers heaviest and most frequent in the north and west with snow over the Scottish mountains.
