A deep area of low pressure centred close to southwest Ireland continues to be the main driving force of our weather and very little overall change in the general synoptic pattern is expected as we head into the Easter weekend although the day-to-day detail will vary somewhat.
For this morning many regions are starting off on a rather cloudy note with outbreaks of rain and hill snow pushing northwards across Scotland. Showers and longer spells of rain, locally heavy and persistent, are also affecting much of Ireland and Northern Ireland with some heavy downpours making their way across parts of southwest England and south Wales.
It is a drier and brighter start elsewhere with some sunny spells but it's a mobile picture and bands of rain or showers will continue to push northwards around that area of low pressure today. Some of the showers will be heavy with hail and thunder, as well as being accompanied by gusty winds, but there will be some sunny spells outside of the showers this afternoon although many parts of Scotland will hold onto a fair amount of cloud.
Temperatures today will still be on the chilly side towards northern Scotland where values remain stuck in single figures but further south maximums will generally be in the range of 10°C to 13°C, perhaps a touch higher in any longer sunny breaks, but it will be windy for many, especially towards the southwest.
Showers will continue into this evening before gradually becoming more confined to western areas overnight as outbreaks of more persistent rain across northern Scotland slowly clear north. Many places will then become drier but it won't be long before the next area of rain pushes up from the south later in the night. This takes us into another changeable and windy day tomorrow with further showers or longer spells of rain, but the far north may see a drier and brighter day.
