The middle of the week will be dominated by a fairly slack area of low pressure sinking southwards across Britain and Ireland. To the north pressure will be rising sharply during the next 24 hours and so, as that low slips away to the south, we will pick up a fresh north/north-easterly wind as we go into tomorrow.
For this morning it is a generally cloudy start to the day across many parts of the country with outbreaks of rain and drizzle affecting many regions. There are some drier spells around too though and as we head on through the morning so the rain will tend to become more showery in nature. However, as temperatures pick up and where any sunshine starts to break through so this will act as the trigger for some locally heavy showers breaking out by this afternoon, perhaps with some thunder in places too. Not everywhere will catch the showers with some spots escaping with a mainly dry afternoon - the far northeast of Scotland, parts of Ireland, central and south-western England most likely to see the drier conditions. Temperatures today will be rather cool for many with maximums generally of 13°C to 15°C in the north and 16°C to 19°C further south whilst winds will be light for many but picking up in the north later.
Showery rain will tend to become heavier and more persistent across parts of Wales, western and south-western England this evening with some locally torrential and thundery downpours possible in places. These showers will continue well into tonight with further showers likely across other southern regions. However, drier but windier conditions will be pushing down from the north and this process continues tomorrow with the showers becoming confined to more southern and south-western regions allowing many areas to enjoy a brighter but windier day.
