For much of Britain and Ireland Sunday will be a bright day with sunny spells but towards the south and southwest an area of low pressure tracking east/south-eastwards close to southern Britain will be bringing some wet and windy weather with it. This low will take its time to clear the south and southeast, and it may be tomorrow afternoon before the rain clears Kent.
Back to this morning and it is another chilly start with a frost in areas where skies cleared overnight and there are also some areas of mist, fog and low cloud around which may take a little while to clear. Once they do though it will be a generally fine and dry day for much of the country apart from the odd shower.
The main weather activity today will be taking place towards the south and southwest as freshening winds and outbreaks of rain, already affecting much of southern Ireland, southwest England and parts of Wales, continue to make their way further eastwards across southern England. The rain will become quite heavy and persistent at times, especially in areas to the south of the M4, so with this rain falling onto saturated ground there could again be some issues with surface water and localised flooding.
Winds will also be freshening up in the south with fresh to strong easterlies developing as we go through the day and into tonight, those winds becoming quite gusty in exposed spots, whilst temperatures today will range from 6°C to 8°C in the north, where winds will be lighter, and 8°C to 10°C in the south although the wind and rain will make it feel colder here.
It remains wet and windy across southern regions of England tonight but for many central and northern regions it will be a dry night with clear spells and just the odd shower. It will turn cold with some frost again in the north, but values further south holding above freezing thanks to more cloud and wind. Tomorrow sees a continuation of the mainly dry and bright conditions for northern Britain with just the odd shower but in the south it will be rather cold and windy with rain only slowly clearing south-eastwards.
