A rather misty and murky start to Tuesday across many parts of the country with some low cloud and fog patches in places. Pressure remains relatively low across much of the country though and a new frontal system will be pushing up from the south later on today.
Back to this morning and we still have a frontal system bringing a damp start to the day across central and southern parts of Scotland along with parts of northern England whilst some showers are affecting the southeast of England. Skies will gradually brighten in many regions today with some sunny spells developing but the sunshine will help to spark off some locally heavy showers although not everywhere will catch them.
Many parts of Scotland will remain mostly overcast and damp although the far north will be drier at times with a brisk northerly wind. Cloud will also increase across southern counties of England this afternoon ahead of outbreaks of rain moving into the Channel Islands and then parts of southern and south-western England.
Temperatures today will range from a rather chilly 7°C or 8°C once again in the far north to a more pleasant feeling 13°C to 16°C in the drier and sunnier spells across England and Wales.
That weather front across Scotland remains slow-moving tonight so little change here, meanwhile that cloud and rain in the southwest will push further northwards overnight, reaching much of Ireland, Wales, central and eastern England during the course of the night. Tomorrow is then shaping up to be another rather changeable day with that cloud and rain continuing to push north, joining up with the old front across Scotland. It will be chillier but drier and brighter in the far north with somewhat brighter conditions also developing in the south during the course of the day.
