The weekend is starting off on a fairly mild note in many regions thanks to a mild south-westerly air stream in place but changes will be taking places over the weekend as a cold front pushes south-eastwards across all areas introducing a cooler west/north-westerly air stream and a risk of showers.
Although many southern and eastern regions of the UK are dawning dry and brighter we do have more in the way of cloud towards the north and west, the cloud bringing some rain and drizzle in places, especially across western Scotland where there are some heavy bursts of rain around as that cold front arrives. A band of cloud and increasingly patchy rain and drizzle associated with that front will be making its way south-eastwards today although its unlikely to reach south-eastern parts of England until late on. Meanwhile, brighter skies will follow across much of Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales and northern England but a number of showers will break out, these heaviest and most frequent towards the north.
It will be a rather breezy day, especially in the north, and it will be turning cooler for many with top temperatures ranging from 11°C to 14°C in the north and west and 15°C to 18°C across much of England and Wales, but for the far southeast of England values could again reach 20°C or 21°C ahead of that cold front.
That cold front clears the southeast of England this evening and showers in the north will tend to become confined towards northern and western coasts overnight with many areas becoming dry. Tomorrow is then set to be a showery day across much of Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland with some locally heavy and thundery showers around, but for England and Wales there will be fewer showers and more in the way of dry and bright weather around although temperatures will be cooler everywhere.
